Mongolian Horse Head fiddle (Morin Khuur) and al’ Oud (“the wood” in Arabic) combine in a unique fusion of galloping Mongolian rhythms, sparkling harmonic singing, and the warm, evocative nuances of the oud, and other exotic strings. First conceived at Woodford Folk Festival 2010/11, when upon first meeting these two fine exponents of their craft found a chemistry both musically and on stage, Exploring a range of musical possibilities including Mongolian/Turkish, Mongolian/bluegrass, Mongolian….you get the idea! The result is always stunning and often undefinable! John and Bukhu first performed at Jenolan Caves in January 2012 in a sell out show underground with the most amazing acoustics as part of the Music of the World Concert and workshop series presented by Music Hunter Projects, and have since performed at the Sydney Opera House, Cygnet folk Festival, MONA Museum in Hobart, Festival of the Winds in Bondi and in Sydney’s world music and Jazz venues,as well as many other events and festivals around Australia.
